Kokolo / Los Terrificos - Remixes 12"

Kokolo / Los Terrificos - Remixes 12"

Regular price $12.00

Peace & Rhythm brings you a collection of tropical house to warm the winter months.

Kokolo Afrobeat Orchestra formed in 2001, and the group found its place helping to spearhead the revival of afrobeat in the early 2000s, along with groups like Antibalas, The DaktarisAkoya, and Souljazz Orchestra. The remixes here, are of songs to appear on their upcoming 5th LP, 100 Fevers, out on Peace & Rhythm in 2019. Los Terrificos is Kokolo front man, Ray Lugo’s collaboration with film composer Jake Fader. Their 2015 2xLP Go South / Vaya Pa'l Sur is a journey melding psychedelic chicha cumbia with Spaghetti-Western cinematic sounds.

Bosq (Ubiquity/Soul Clap) has become one of the top names in Latin and African house by delivering again and again, and he doesn’t disappoint. He kicks off this 12” with an afrohouse floor filler, that does what Bosq does best; music which works just as well with house and disco DJs as it does with funk and afrobeat DJs. A must have for working DJs of many genres and lovers of modern afrofunk.

Max Essa (Bear Funk/Music For Dreams/Is It Balearic?) slows things down and smooths things out, for a mid tempo groover. Essa’s signature synth tones blend perfectly with Kokolo’s vocals and percussion, creating something versatile enough to feel comfortable early, peak, or late night, whether you’re sipping a cocktail at a seaside resort or sweating it out on a packed dance floor.

D. Briggs (Stray Current) fresh off his collaboration with Jacques Renault, jumps in his time machine to take us to early 90s South America. Briggs transforms a slow cumbia into a lo-fi house burner. It’s dark, it’s gritty, and it bumps.

Studebaker Hawk (Peace & Rhythm) gives us dark synthy disco for a basement party near you. The cosmic synth rides over the funky baseline, while the hand claps hold it all together. Hawk dubs the elements in and out, giving deep disco lovers, new fuel for the fire.

In addition to the 4 songs on the 12" EP, two additional remixes are available exclusively on the digital release, available for sale at Peace & Rhythm's Bandcamp

GMGN and Dustin Rosata (Soul Clap) bring us 2 additional Kokolo remixes. GMGN goes banging afrohouse, for a hard hitting dance floor jam. Rosata, takes a turn to the experimental for his "Psychedelic Sludge Remix". The funky percussion lulls you into a false sense of security, until the vocals take a hit of nitrous.
