"Peace & Rhythm Presents" is a weekly eclectic music series every Wednesday night at The Root Cellar, downtown Greenfield's newest music venue. This premier season features bands and performers of various genres and styles, including funk, world music, jazz, reggae, rock, folk, DJs and more. Every Wednesday is FREE ADMISSION, 21+. Doors open at 8, music starts pumping at 9 and goes until 1230.
---Wed, July 27...The Boogalistics (soul-jazz/funk) and Doctor Thing (freak-out psychedelic jazz-funk) - The Boogalistics bring fresh energy to the classic sound of soul jazz. Boogaloo, soul-jazz, funk, this brand new group out of Northampton will satisfy your need for dancefloor-jazz. Justin Tomsevic (formerly of Melvin Sparks Trio)-drums, Nico D'Amico-guitar, Parker McQueeney-keyboards, Josh Owsley-bass, Adam Scotera-sax. Doctor Thing play a groove based brand of freak out psych jazz. Joined by their nemesis, Doctor Ilya Kuryakyn, a cold war psychedelics researcher mysteriously turned into an elephant, they root their jazz improv sensibilities in grooves that will keep the dance floor pumping. The band consists of Parker McQueeney (keyboard), Andrew Atkin (guitar), Nico D'Amico (bass), Denny Ray Pellitier (drums).

The band plays danceable neo-R&B/indy rock. Born in Hartford, Connecticut and bred to be a hardcore musician; Afropanther is a Space Jungle Club DJ, Producer, and lyrical assassin. ---Wed, Aug 24...Rebirth - Citing influences ranging from Fela Anikulapo Kuti and Steel Pulse to The Beatles and The Police to Nina Simone and Bill Withers, the group folds “Afro-influenced folk,” funk, soul, reggae, jazz, Latin & hip-hop elements into its expansive sound, along with other elements from music throughout the globe. Rebirth write honest and heartfelt songs and are proud to stand by a message of love and unification through music.

---Wed, Sept 7...Matt Valentine & PG Six - Matt Valentine, of MV/EE, plays a solo set. Cosmic psych-folk, magical country & blues, mountain ragas, blissful strings, open roads. One of the leading lights of the freak underground for decades. Child of Microtones. PG Six's music fuses an unlikely range of influences including 60s British folk, country rock, & experimental music. In his various musical incarnations, Pat has shared the stage with the aforementioned Robin Williamson & The Incredible String Band, Yo La Tengo, To Live and Shave in L.A., Alan Licht, Tony Conrad, Tono Bungay, Ghost, Bert Jansch, Slint, the Shadow Ring, Michael Hurley and others.

---Wed, Sept 14...The Soul Magnets and DJ Bongohead - based in Northampton MA, Soul Magnets are an up & coming neo-soul/funk band. ---Wed, Oct 5...Walking Ghosts & Beach Honey - Walking Ghosts are a four-piece garage rock band from Western Mass with a glow-in-the-dark vinyl 45! Beach Honey is a Kinks-inspired rock n' roll quartet from the Pioneer Valley of Massachusetts. The DailyHampshire Gazette calls the group "part bubblegum, part Velvet Underground and totally catchy".
