Ray Olán Y Su Nuevo Sasón

Ray Olán Y Su Nuevo Sasón

Ray Olán is a New York born pianist, vocalist, and orchestra director of Puerto Rican extraction who has been on the salsa scene since the late 60s with his band Ray Olán Y Su Orquesta Sasón. Like many other salsa masters of the old school from New York and Puerto Rico, Ray was embraced and called one of their own by Colombia’s salsa fanatics, allowing him to keep performing and recording in his golden years. Despite Ray Olán Y Su Sasón disappearing from the music scene during the salsa boom when many groups disbanded, the band’s one and only album from that era, Sugar On Sunday, recorded in 1969 for Alegre Records, has continued to resonate in the Latin music realm with collectors, dancers and DJs. This has allowed Ray, in recent times, to made a triumphant return with his new group, Ray Olán Y Su Nuevo Sasón, and release a fresh musical production, Regreso del Futuro. He’s also made live appearances in Colombia, Peru and Japan, to great acclaim. His recent 45, reprising the track “El Músico” (beloved of his Colombian fans) B/W “Vasos de Colores” (both recorded live), is available here from Peace & Rhythm in the US and Hyperopia in Canada.
